SCENE 1
INT - LIVING ROOM - DAY
SALLY and CONRAD look out the window into the rain. FISH is in the bowel nearby.
SALLEY
I wish we had something to do
Loud bump off stage. CAT IN THE HAT walks onstage wearing a suit with a red and white striped hat and a red bowtie.
CAT IN THE HAT
Why do you sit there doing nothing? I know it's raining but we can still have lots of fun! I know some good games and tricks and your mother won't mind if i show you.
FISH
No! No! Get him out! Get him out! He shouldn't be here when your MOTHER isn't home!
CAT IN THE HAT
Why do you say that? Let's play a game I call up-up-up with a fish!
CAT IN THE HAT picks up FISH in bowl, balances on a ball and holds lots of other objects.
FISH
Put me down! Put me down!
CAT IN THE HAT loses balance and falls. The FISH falls in a pot. Everything else falls and makes a mess.
SCENE TWO
CAT IN THE HAT brings in a box. He opens it and THINGS 1 and THING 2 come out.
CAT IN THE HAT
These are THINGS 1 and THING 2. Shake their hands.
SALLY and CONRAD shake their hands.
FISH
No! No! THING 1 and THING 2 shouldn't be here when your MOM isn't home! Get them out!!!
CAT IN THE HAT
These are tame, they won't hurt you. Now a game they like is flying kites.
FISH
No! Not in the house!
THING 1 and THING 2 flew kites around the stage and objects fell over as they ran by. Their MOM'S dress caught on one of the kites and stuck on the string.
SALLEY
I don't like this.
FISH
Your mom is coming! I see her! get rid of THING 1 and THING 2 quickly!
CONRAD got his net. He used it to catch THINGS 1 and THING 2.
CONRAD
Now take your THINGS away!
CAT IN THE HAT puts THING 1 and THING 2 in the box and left
FISH
this mess is so big we can't pick it up before your MOM comes home.
CAT IN THE HAT re enters stage and picks up the mess
CAT IN THE HAT
I always pick up after I play.
CAT IN THE HAT left and everything is clean. MOM enters the stage.
MOM
Did you have fun? Tell me what you did.
