Ash and Cinder had left their adoptive mothers a year ago and were looking for a place to rest on their journey when it started raining. They sighed and sat under a tree with lots of leaves. They spotted a cat who looked similar to Cally and Emma, their adoptive mothers and friends. They were puzzled and walked up to the cat.
"‘You look a lot like our friends Cally and Emma. Do you know them?" Cinder questioned.
"Oh, Cally and Emma? Well I'm their father." The stranger answered.
"Huh…" Cinder meowed.
"Come with me, you two looked soaked." The stranger said and brought them to a place where Twolegs keep lots of animals.
"So, what's your name sir?" Ash asked.
"‘Call me Shadow." Shadow answered. "How are Cally and Emma doing?"
"Before we left they were doing okay but it's been a year, things may have changed" Ash answered.
"Are they still living in an old oven?"
"Last we saw, yes. We were on the way to visit them when we got stuck in the storm."
"Well there's plenty of rats and mice in here for all of us so feel free to hunt." Shadow said and walked off.
"Well he seems friendly." Cinder said when Shadow was out of sight.
"Let's hunt and get rest then head out when the storm is over." Ash said.
"Thanks for letting us stay here" Ash thanked Shadow as they were heading out.
"No problem, feel free to come again." Shadow replied.
Ash and Cinder headed towards their old home with Cally and Emma. They got there a few days later. They found Emma and a black cat there but not Cally. There were also little kittens running around like mini-Emmas and minnie versions of the stranger. Some looked like mini-Callys.
"Hey Emma, how are you?" Cinder asked.
"I'm great but it's sometimes a pain caring for this many kittens." Emma replied. " and this is Diablo. He is the proud father of this many kits."
"Hello and you two would be…?" Shadow asked.
"I'm Ash and this is Cinder. We’re Emma and Cally’s adoptive son and daughter." Ash answered.
"Ah.. Emma's told me a lot about you. I need to tell you something," Diablo said, pulling them to the side. "We recently heard news of Cally’s disappearance so bring her up as little as possible."
"Ok…" Ash meowed with a tinge of anger in his voice.
Cinder was so upset she had tears in her eyes. Ash was angered. He didn't understand why they hadn't sent some sort of message before now. Diablo was thinking of how he could permanently get rid of Ash and Cinder without his friend the eagle carrying them off, but did not show that in his eyes.
"Diablo! Cinder! Ash! Could you all hunt please?! I can't do it and it’d take forever for Diablo to hunt for all of us.” Emma hollered over the cacophony of hungry kittens.
After they had gone many paces from the home and it had gone out of sight a few paces back, Diablo pounced on Cinder. She tried desperately to get free but Diablo held on tight. He raked his claws across her belly making her yowl in pain.
"Diablo? Why are you attacking Cinder?" Ash asked cautiously.
"Because I want Emma and the kittens all to myself!!" Diablo replied, "and if that means killing you, then I will. And it meant making it look like an eagle killed Cally."
"What actually happened to Cally?" Cinder asked, pausing in his struggle.
"Oh I made her give me her kittens and had my friend eagle carry her somewhere far away." Diablo answered.
Just then they heard shrieks that sounded like joyful ones. During the shrieks Cinder wiggled free and Ash attacked Diablo, pinning him.
"That was probably Emma, and she probably met Cally. We will stop you and your little plan." Ash growled." Cinder, go get Emma and Cally."
As Cinder sprinted off, Diablo wiggled free and started after her. Ash stopped him by pulling him down.
Meanwhile back at the oven, Cally had just shown up and Emma was taking care of her scratches and cleaning her fur when Cinder came sprinting in.
"Emma, Cally come quick. There's something you need to see." Cinder panted and slowly led them back to Ash and Diablo.
When they got there Ash was pinned and bleeding badly. Cinder dragged Diablo off him and kept him busy. Cally and Emma rushed to Ash's side and started licking his wounds.
"Ash, what happened?" Emma asked
"It turns…out you had …kits with a …horrible cat" Ash wheezed. "He wanted you… and the kits… to himself… and intended…to kill us."
"Diablo?" Emma asked.
"Ash is right. Diablo took my kittens and had an eagle carry me off." Cally said.
"N-no, Emma, honey, you know I would never do anything like that. Cally, Ash and Cinder are just jealous.'' Diablo tried to save himself.
"No. They're not. I’ve known them since they were very young. And they aren't liars nor would they be jealous of something like this.” Emma said, shaking her head.
Suddenly, Diablo growled and lunged away from Cinder and at Emma. Ash was able to knock Diablo away, but in doing so, changed Diablo’s target to him. Diablo was about to swipe at Ash when Cinder bit him in the neck and Diablo fell sideways losing a lot of blood.
"I hope you burn in hell, you devil." Emma spat at Diablo before walking away.
After the incident with Diablo, Shadow came for a visit and helped get food while Ash, Cinder, and Cally recovered. He came monthly for visits. Ash and Cinder stayed with Emma and Cally and helped raise the kittens.
