Rose and Jack were sitting in their basement finishing up their latest creation. Jack was working on the programming, and Rose was working on the last adjustments for the body.
“Your robot is going to be awesome, Rose!” Jack said as he finished the programming.
“Well, Lilly gave me the idea and you've both helped a little. So it was a team effort.” Rose said a little happy and uncomfortable at the praise.
“You've done most of the work on it though. But speaking of Lilly, we should probably call her to tell her it's done.” Jake said shaking his head and smiling
“Okay. let me get my phone” Rose said getting up.
A few minutes later Lilly rushed into the basement. She was panting almost like her chihuahua when he’s tired. She suddenly straightened and grinned hugely.
“Where is it? Where is the robot!” she exclaimed, still smiling, searching the room.
Jake laughed and pulled the cover off the robot “Here it is. It's beautiful isn't it?”
“It's spectacular. Rose, you're so good at this stuff!” she gushed.
“Well, you gave me the idea and you both helped, so…” Rose blushed as red as the flower she was named for.
Lily giggled at her big sister’s face before facing the robot again. She examined all the details, amazed at how she and her siblings had turned scraps of metal into a robot. She backed up a little and hugged both her big brother and sister, proud of all of them.
“Alright let's see how it works”. Rose hesitantly stepped up to the robot and pressed the on/off button.
They all held their breaths as they waited to see if it worked. They each let out a collective gasp as the small, multicolored lights came on all over the robot. Jack let out a whoop. Rose and Lily hugged each other before turning back to the robot.
“What do you want?” the Robot asked once it had fully turned on.
“Hi. I'm Rose, this is Jack and Lily.” she said pointing to her little siblings. “We made you. And could you hand me my phone from the shelf please?”
“No” the children were taken aback as the robot refused to do as it was told.
The robot then grabbed Lily and dragged her out of the basement. Lily kicked and thrashed but the robot’s grip was strong. She started crying as she realized she was being dragged out of the basement. Jack and Rose were frozen with shock and could only watch as the Robot exited.
Rose suddenly dropped to the ground and started beating herself up and crying.
“It’s all my fault!” She wailed.
Jack rubbed his neck and admitted, “ No, it's not your fault. It was probably a programming issue. And I'm not great at it so it's probably my fault.”
Rose would groan inwardly as she realized she let Jack program the robot. She’d then sigh before saying,”Well nothing we can do about that right now. Let's just go find Lily.”
“We can follow the sound of her screams and cries.” Jack suggested, as they could still hear her, but somewhat faintly.
They looked for a while before finding the robot. They then spotted Lily tied up behind it. They tried to sneak up on the robot as it was saying something to Lily. But Lily looked up as she noticed them.
“Rose! Jack!” she cried happily not realizing the robot would now turn and spot them as well.
“Be quiet!” the robot said, kicked Lily farther back, and she doubled over in pain.
“Give Lily back!” Rose said, drawing the robot’s attention while Jack sneaked around to get Lily.
“Why should i?” the robot asked with crossed arms. “She'll be the perfect servant for me.”
“Because no matter what you do, she won't listen to you.” Rose shouted at the robot and glanced at Jack as he cut Lily’s ropes quietly.
“Why should I believe you?” the robot replied.
“Because I made you.” Rose said in a normal tone.
“Wait a minute. Where’s that boy you had with you?!” The robot whipped around to see Jack trying to creep up to the on/off button and slung him away. He realized Lily was gone and whipped back around and saw Lily behind Rose without the ropes and prepared to charge. But before he could, Jack got back up and slapped the on/off button.
“YAY! Thank you guys for saving me!” Lily shouted, bouncing up and hugged Rose.
“Why wouldn't we? You're our friend and little sister.” Rose said, ruffling her little sister’s hair.
“Yeah!” Jack agreed but his tone soured as he kicked the robot. “What are we going to do with this?”
“I have an idea” Rose said with a small grin and Lily giggled as she realized what her sister must be thinking.
Later in the basement, Lily and Rose sat on top of the robot’s shoulders. Jack sits on a ladder and reprograms the robot but has an annoyed expression on his face.
“Why can't you do it Rose?” he complained as he paused his work.
“Because it was your mistake,” Lily said before Rose could reply, giggling.
“Fine, but you better get me a drink or snack once I'm done,” Jack growled.
“Okay, I guess you deserve it after the day we had.” Rose said with a smile.
A few minutes later, Jack finished the reprogramming and was about to say something when their mom walked in. in her hands was a tray with a plate of cookies and three cups of milk.
“Look at my three little inventors!” She exclaimed as she sat the tray down. “I thought you might want something to munch on”
“Thanks mom! Your cookies are the best!” Lily grinned and hugged her mom.
Jack reached for a cookie without saying before his sisters got some. His mom smacked his hand lightly and smiled.
“Not yet, mister. Ladies first.” Mom said, handing cookies and milk to Rose and Lily.
“But mom!” Jack complained as Rose and Lily giggled before munching on their cookies and sipping their milk.
